“Be more of a man."
“You're not as good as you think you are.”
“I need to know where you are and who you're with.”
“Why can't you ever get this right?"
“Why don't you ever tell me how you're feeling?”
“You don't earn enough money.”

Do you often hear any of these from your partner?

If you answered yes, it could be a sign that you’re experiencing abuse.

If you're:

  • being constantly put down,

  • constantly being criticised,

  • being guilt tripped into doing things against your will,

  • having your life dictated to you - what you want to do with your life, who you can see and where you can go,

  • losing or have lost the courage to say 'no' in order to 'keep the peace',

  • being falsely accused with allegations you know are not true,

  • being or have been threatened or feeling intimidated,

It could be abuse.

Abuse isn't always physical

Abuse towards men can be physical, but emotional and psychological abuse is just as damaging. It targets mental health rather than physical health. It's also far more sinister and difficult to prove than physical abuse.

Nothing is ever enough

Constant criticism that never lets up, no matter how hard you try.

You’re being controlled

Your money, your movements, or who you see are decided for you.

You feel afraid at home

Threats, intimidation, or walking on eggshells to keep the peace.

It’s always your fault

Somehow every problem comes back around to being blamed on you.

You’ve become isolated

Slowly cut off from the friends and family who used to have your back.

You doubt yourself

You’ve started to wonder if you’re the problem, or if it’s all in your head.
